What's Up with This Site?
First there was Julepstyle.com. Then there was ChampagneThursday.com. Now they are one.

In all seriousness, this is really just my website. I began Julepstyle.com in 2005 as a place for me to put recipes, crafts, pictures of fun things, pictures of my family, etc. After seeing Failure to Launch (and yes–I’m freely admitting that I watched that movie), I decided Champagnethursday.com was a better domain name. The name comes from a bit of dialogue between the characters of Kit (played by Zooey Deschanel) and Paula (Sarah Jessica Parker):

Kit: Good news. It’s Champagne Thursday.
Paula: It’s Friday.
Kit: Uh, yeah, it came twice this week.
Paula: For the third straight week.
Kit: There’s talk of making it permanent.
Paula: Oh, kind of like Daylight Saving’s Time?.
Kit: Right, but for booze.

Champagnethursday strikes me as the right name for a blog about my life. It’s all mundane stuff, but I try to have a lot of fun doing it all. Celebrating the ordinary. I kept Julepstyle because I thought that one day I may be able to sell my crafts under that name. And now we’ve come full circle. Both domain names point to the same place. It’s julepstyle ala champagnethurday. Or Champagnethursday ala Julepstyle. The name is irrelevant. What matters is that I like to drink champagne, make crafts, make my house better, hang out with the family, and eat tasty treats. Sometimes I document these adventures; I’m trying to be better about that part. Enjoy!
Hi there
I'm Suzanne
I grew up in Florence, South Carolina, but discovered the field of landscape architecture at Duke University where as an undergrad, I double majored in Biology and Visual Arts, and explored all the subjects I loved -- Biology, Botany, Physics, Sculpture, Photography, Architectural History, Art History, Hydrology, and Geology to name a few. I received a Benenson grant to go to study Japanese gardens after graduation. And then, I started graduate school in the fall of 2000 at the University of Pennsylvania. While in grad school, I spent a few summers living in Manhattan and working at Urban Center Books which was a gorgeous little architecture book store right next door to St. Patrick's Cathedral. I got my Masters in Landscape Architecture in May of 2003, and then began work at Environmental Concepts in October of 2003 in Myrtle Beach, SC.

After living in Durham, Philadelphia, and NYC, I never expected to move back home to South Carolina. Myrtle Beach is one of those crazy places that defies shortly worded descriptions. There's lots of neon, golf courses, strip clubs, and tattoo shops, but it's also combined with relentless palm trees and gilding. Obviously, the Grand Strand wants to be like Vegas, but our strip is about 50 miles long. The whole area is tucked into one of the most beautiful and unique ecologies in the world--the Carolina Flatwoods. Carolina Bays are very cool, Longleaf Pines are the best, and this is the only area in the world with indigenous Venus Flytraps!

In 2008, I married my awesome husband Rob, and we've just been working on our little home and family since. We have three little boys who keep us on our toes. I talk to my best friend Erin almost every day for feedback and inspo. My mom is the other big project-force in my life; we talk everyday. In real life, I work as a planner and landscape architect. I'm also a certified arborist, LEED AP in BD+C, and certified floodplain manager lol. I love my job and work family, and I consider it a true success in life to find career happiness and fulfillment.
