My pal Melitssa took these pictures at a party last Thursday night. They are so cool (especially the owl); I had to share.

In farmers markets of South Carolina, Okra is a great vegetable available all summer long. Pick up a, “Mess of Okra,” and serve it fried for a really tasty treat!
I love homemade Chex Mix. I could eat it year round. For reasons of self-discipline, my boyfriend & I restrict our consumption to the holidays/fall/winter (except for the occasional rainy-day summertime batch) . Since it is now that time of the year, we made our first official batch of Chex Mix this weekend. I thought I’d share our recipe for […]
The perfect hors d’oeuvre for any Champagne Thursday is Fat Cracker. I don’t know the original names for these divine little appetizers, but they really should just be called Fat Crackers. Bacon fat baked into club crackers with melted, bubbly Parmesan cheese. Yummy. I’m lucky–because my metabolism is so high, I can eat a million Fat Crackers and still not […]
Saturday night, my family cooked a lowcountry crab boil (aka Frogmore Stew, although sometimes that one doesn’t have crab). It was the best meal ever. Serve it with some drinks and crusty bread; it’s always a party. Simple, yet tasty.
We have another great recipe called Pecan Pilaf. My mom made this for Thanksgiving; it tastes very, very yummy.
(that’s Pecan pronounced pee-can round here) Just in time for your holiday get-togethers, we present:
Now that the post-Thanksgiving Rush has settled down, and I’m looking at the home stretch for my exam studying (12/5 & 12/6), It’s time to post some new recipes.
When I was living in Durham, one of my favorite restaurants was Cafe Parveneh in Chapel Hill. Serving traditional Persian cuisine, one of my favorite dishes was Mirza Ghasemi. i submitted my own tasty version of this veggie treat to the vittles.
Julep Style has another recipe submission: Oven-Fried Chicken. This recipe puts a healthier spin on the traditional Southern dish. It’s also much easier to prepare because there’s no popping oil to deal with.
For our family’s Father’s Day Gathering, I made a great pasta salad. When I was a kid, I avoided all mixed salads–pasta, potato, tuna, chicken. However, I loved my mom’s pasta salad (this is her recipe modified a bit). My very picky boyfriend even liked it. Plus, since I made it, it is GUARANTEED to be quick, easy, and very […]
This weekend, Julep Style received some amazing new recipes from Elizabeth (my sister)!
This is the second recipe JulepStyle.com received from my sister this weekend! This Light Salsa is the Topping for the Cornmeal Dusted Salmon, but also makes a great appetizer or snack on a hot summer day.
Another cake submission! This is one of my favorite cakes ever; my mom makes it for my birthday. It is so good–gooey, sticky, chocolate goodness.
My mom made this cake over the weekend for a dinner party and was kind enough to submit the recipe to JulepStyle. This cake is soooo good; it’s really one of the best cakes I’ve ever tasted.
